This week’s sermon text: 1 Samuel 16:1-13
We look at the interaction between Samuel and God, as God commands Samuel to anoint a new king. How is it God approaches Samuel, who is grieving? What can we learn about how God instructs Samuel?
We then look at the process as Samuel is guided to anoint David. How does Samuel follow God’s directions? What is it God looks for in the new king?

This week we look at Samuel and Saul, at the times when Saul fails. How do we respond to God’s commands? How much do we value obedience?
This week we look at the anointing of Saul, and what the story of Israel choosing a king. Israels holds a large celebration when Saul is crowned, but Samuel rebukes them. How often do we celebrate getting what we desire?

We look at the end of Samuel’s time as a judge, to when Israel asks for a King. We look at what this meant, both to the people and to God. In a time of peace, they ask for a King to bring peace.
How is it we seek peace? What do we look to, to bring it into our lives?

In today’s message we look at the story of Gibeah. We see how God’s law is diregarded, and the way Israel had slipped away from God’s direction. We see how those involved see and plan for their own choices, often without considering God’s authority.
