Sacrifice or Selfishness

Do we try to reach holiness by trying use our own willpower, relying on our selves? Or do we surrender ourselves to God? Paul confronts the sin of Christians selfishly burdening themselves and others with rules that can’t humanly be achieved, and challenges them to submit to God’s spirit. The self-driven Christian selfishly judges others, while the spirit-led Christian looks for how they can assist others.

Paul again addresses the heart of legalistic Christianity. While it puts on the appearance of righteousness and religiosity, it is self-driven and self-willed- it is still driven by the flesh. He goes on the expound on how we must live out our faith, in submission instead to the Spirit.
